DOSSIER
HISTORY: "There’s a voice inside my head and it’s telling me to be brave."CR AU: So Stiles showed up on AX kind of messed up. He had just gotten over being possessed by the Nogitsune, by which I of course mean that he was in no way
over being possessed by the Nogitsune. He was anxious, guilt ridden, and reasonably convinced that this whole space station thing was just another weird dream head trip. Getting abducted temporarily only a month after his arrival and taken down to an alien planet in a magic induced, disorienting/terrifying dream didn't matters any.
Stiles spiraled dangerously for a bit, making bad decisions involving mixing unlabeled anxiety medication with his Adderall without any sort of input from a trained professional, lying to his friends and just making poor life choices in general. After he disappeared into the hallways of the ship and managed to claw his way back again, Derek called something of an intervention and helped Stiles start to settle back into something a little closer to his normal levels of high strung anxiety. Mostly.
Reconnecting with Allison, back from the dead again, helped Stiles significantly with the whole guilt thing as well. They grew closer than they had ever had a chance to be back in Beacon Hills and it was something good in his life.
Another good point in Stiles' life was meeting Sally and more or less taking her under his wing as her very own werewolf guru. He coached her on ways to keep The Secret, played security on some full moons courtesy of his very own jar of mountain ash, and basically spent the entirety of his time up on that space station giving her a hard time and getting it right back. The kind of friends that you insult to their face and you mean it, you
really really do, but also you'd do just about anything to keep them safe and happy.
Up to and including running defense for Sally on her endless parade of bad life choices and ill-advised hook ups (Stiles is well aware of the hypocrisy involved, and that makes it okay, shhhhhhh).
At this point he's still kind of a nervous, scared, depressed mess of a human being (who maybe drinks a little too much whiskey for his age), but he's doing much better at hiding it now. So business as usual, really. If anyone asks, the word of the day is "Fine, I'm fine."
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: Though you wouldn't expect it with his general inability to focus, Stiles is actually a very observant and dedicated detective. When a new concept or idea is introduced to him, he won't rest until he knows absolutely everything about it. He is a highly intuitive problem solver and has been responsible for solving many of the mysteries that have plagued the kids of Beacon Hills since the first season, which has lead to Stiles insisting that he is "always right" and that Scott should always listen to him.
Stiles is clever, and he knows it, which translates to him being remarkably stubborn and dangerously foolhardy under certain circumstances. He forms opinions about people or things and is very slow to change those opinions to the point where he's pretty good at holding a grudge. And while he's easily one of the most breakable members of the show, Stiles has never let that stop him from giving people a piece of his mind when he thinks they deserve it, be they an authority figure or a werewolf with negligible self control.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?: Stiles has a pretty rough history when it comes to mental health. He suffers from ADHD for which he is prescribed Adderall, but he still shows clear signs of having a difficulty focusing on one thing for long stretches of time, as well as an inability to keep still. It's also suggested that he has somewhat of a history of abusing his medication in times of intense research binges. Following his mother's death he had a lot of anxiety problems as well, suffering from regular panic attacks. Those panic attacks have recently made a resurgence into his life with the increased stress he's been under, particularly in the last few months.
Part of his foolhardiness lies in the fact that Stiles has little to no self preservation. He doesn't seem to have an overwhelming amount of self worth. Stiles also blames himself for his mom's death and secretly worries that his dad might also blame him for it. For that reason he tends to self-internalize a lot of his pain, or even project it onto other people; like when he yelled at Lydia about how much you hurt the people you leave behind and was clearly thinking about him and his father instead. His most common response to the question "are you okay" is "I'm fine", even if it's hideously clear that he is anything but fine.
WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?: I can boil that all down to three things really. One, his mom's illness and death; watching her mind slowly crumble, watching her turn into another person in front of his eyes, watching her die, alone in the hospital room with her because his dad was working (his dad is always working). Two, tumbling face first into the Wonderful World of Werewolves and all the danger and terror that it involved. Three, getting possessed by the Nogitsune; having no control over his own body, being a prisoner in his own mind (like his mom), hurting his friends, being the reason Allison died.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: Outside of morbid curiosity and the sheer desperate struggle to stay alive while living in Hellmouth 2.0? His friends and family, whole stop. Stiles isn't actually a terribly empathetic person and the list of people that he
honestly cares about is pretty small, but once you're on that list he will
burn the earth down if it will help keep them safe. He will do whatever it takes.
WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: Sarcastic little shit who's a little too clever for his own good. Geeky and more than a little weird, a troublemaker through and through. Over dramatic and needs to learn how to calm down. Doesn't seem to hold The Rules in very high esteem, no matter which rules you're talking about here. Possibly also a bit confused about his sexuality. That guy you go to for obscure facts about almost anything under the sun (if he doesn't have an answer you can bet he'll be researching it that night). Doesn't take anything seriously.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: Well, I mean, almost all of those are true aside from the last point, really. Because he
does take things seriously, most of the times a bit more than he probably should really. While he acts flippant in public, things tend to linger with him. His mother's death, his father's drinking, his own struggles with mental health. He doesn't Share a whole lot of himself personally, and that's part of why there's always an avalanche of useless facts coming out of his mouth instead. All of that energy people see is nervous energy, and he has
so much of it that he feels like he's going to drown sometimes.
Has a dark side of him that the Nogitsune gleefully took advantage of while he was possessed, he's willing to go to some pretty extreme lengths to protect the people he cares about. Probably further than any of his friends really expect.
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?: Well first and foremost Stiles would like to be the first to say that he prefers to ignore a problem until it goes away. On the other hand he literally can't keep his nose out of things, so that doesn't happen very often. Especially since he has a bunch of do-gooder friends that he has to make sure stay safe. Stiles is basically a walking ball of anxiety, but he's also more or less managed to keep that under control; by which I mean he knows how to delay his panic attacks until the newest threat has passed. Most of the time.
On the surface, Stiles handles adversity by being mouthy and contrary, slightly reckless, and all too willing to break the law to help him accomplish a goal. And then behind closed doors, proceeds to have a mental breakdown that he doesn't tell his friends or family about. He'll put on a strong face for them instead, by which I mean he'll crack jokes rather than talk about his feelings. He's also far more likely to jump to one of his friend's defense than his own.
WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?: 1. Whatever the name on his driver's license says, call him Stiles,
for the love of all that is good please, call him Stiles.
2. Werewolves are a thing.
3. Being possessed by the Nogitsune
4. He spent some time up in space thinking he was still dreaming.
5. How to deal with a panic attack.
One and two are kind of intrinsic to Stiles as a person. Mostly because at his point in canon werewolves are basically his entire life and because he's not explaining to you how to pronounce his real name, no that's not a thing that's happening. Three and four are his most prevalent lingering traumas and you'd be kind of hard pressed to make him forget those to be honest.
Five is a kindness to him because he's probably going to be having a lot of panic attacks in the beginning, give him a break please.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:
SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES: As one of a quickly dwindling number of actual humans in Beacon Hills, Stiles is almost certainly not the strongest, or the quickest, or the most dangerous of the bunch. At least, when it comes to physical prowess.
Despite not having claws and fangs, guns and arrows, or even a banshee's scream, Stiles is sharp and clever in a pretty devastating combination. He's a talented detective (he learned from the best), highly observant, incredibly foolhardy (he's constantly surrounded by werewolves and never lets them intimidate him) and far more willing than his best friend Scott to go down the morally suspect route for a solution.
Also, as a human, Stiles is one of the few of his party that can successfully use tools like mountain ash in order to form protective (or entrapping) barriers against supernatural beasties. He's also got a fair arm with a baseball bat.
Outside of some mental health issues that were covered earlier, his most pressing weakness is simply that he's unarguably
human, even after everything that's happened. He can talk himself out of a lot, think himself out of even more, and his intuitive leaps are honestly something to be feared, but at the end of the day he's still just a fragile, ordinary human.
