[nodding along with lydia because yes, this is basically precisely what he was worried about and derek's vague reassurances hadn't done much to calm him in that regard.] Yeah I. I think I still have my room on the thirtieth floor?

That's probably far enough away, right?

[stiles frowns at lydia's cringe, and he doesn't feel any better when she avoids the question as well. he can't even begin to imagine what might have happened that lydia actually thinks derek's opinion is valid, she practically never agrees with derek

for good reason, really, derek isn't exactly the best guy at making plans and lydia is, well, lydia.]

Lydia... are you okay? [because if she really doesn't want to tell him what happened, he at least wants to know that she' fine now, whatever it was.]

I've spoken to the head of medical about your situation. I'm sure you've seen him on the network — Peter Petrelli, very lovely man. He's got Adderall or the space equivalent of it, at least, and he's no psychologist, but he's done a bit of counseling in addition to being an actual, you know, medical professional. [ unlike Clara. ] Obviously he's more than happy to help you.

Seriously though, Clara. I really appreciate this.

[ she returns the laugh, more warm than amused. ] Any time. I'm just glad that you're taken care of — and that I don't have to worry more than usual now.

[it's sweet, that she's so concerned about stiles when she hardly even knows him. especially when there are far more important things going on in this ship that she could be worrying about.]

[standsupagain]

[ scott's brow wrinkles. ] If I invite Lydia this time can I not-invite her next time?

[raising an eyebrow at scott and laughing a little.] That's gonna depend on how Allison feels about the whole thing, don't you think?

No, yeah, totally, of course. [ Scott's real quick to nod. And then stop, and scratch at the back of his head before gesturing. ] I don't know how to find out how she feels about the whole thing. Again.

Asking is usually a pretty good way to find out, Scott.

[he shrugs and runs a hand through his hair.] Or you could do something really scandalous and wait for her to make the first move so then you'll know for sure that she's interested. [stiles does come from the camp of 'never be the kisser, always be the kissee', after all]

I don't want to freak her out. I mean she just got here, she just-- [ Died. He shrugs, pushing hands into his pockets so shoulders stay up high a second. ] I guess that'd be a pretty clear answer. [ But not one he looks satisfied with, from the way he's sort of frowning pensively at the foot of the bed. ]

Okay... [nodding slowly, hands twisting in his lap. seriously though, how does he always wind up being everyone's relationship therapist, he doesn't get it.]

Maybe just. If you're worried about freaking her out, don't you think that might be a sign that it' probably too soon?

[ Everyone's is weird, but if he's going to be anyone's he's going to be Scott's. That's high on the list of best friend responsibilities.

Scott tips his head one way and then weaves back the other, hands lifted and dropped uncertainly. ] I mean, probably, yeah, but. [ He sits down on the opposite bed across from Stiles and his hands end up knit together between his knees. ] What if next jump she's gone again?

[maybe, but when is it your turn, scott? when is it your turn.]

And what if she isn't? [stiles turns to face scott when he sits down, expression serious.] Scott, we can't let what happens on this ship dictate our lives. We end up doing stupid, risky shit that could get us killed.

Trust me on this, okay?

[ In two weeks when Malia gets here?

Scott continues his frowning at his shoes and his hands, puzzling that thought over. It takes him a while to realize the difficulty is that it isn't really about him and Allison at all. He knits his fingers together, and nods. ]

Yeah. I mean-- yeah. We need to be careful. [ He looks up and meets Stiles' eyes. ] We need to stick together.

That should be fine. I mean it might end up affecting other people but honestly, you could go up to the fiftieth floor and I'm pretty sure we'd run into that problem eventually.

[ the sad thing is that lydia didn't agree with derek for a long while, but she's had time to grow up and think about it. while admittedly she doesn't completely agree with the opinion, she can understand it at base value.

derek still sucks at making plans though and that will be a constant until someone teaches him how. ]

I'm— [ she pauses briefly, unsure of how to really answer that. on the one hand she feels fine enough, but there was times she wasn't. ] I'm fine now, Stiles. I promise. I've just been here a very long time and stuff happens. People come and go and people you really hate end up coming too. It's in the past. I promise I'm totally fine.

I'm gonna say something that could sound really callous right now, but I could honestly care less how it's going to affect people aside from us [he makes a sweeping sort of gesture that she'll hopefully understand includes their entire floor of beacon hills natives.] and maybe a handful of other people on this ship, okay.

[somewhat warily. there are so many not very good choices that are available under the classification 'people you really hate'] Fine. But you'll tell me if things get bad again or Derek's being an ass about anything?

[because stiles might actually get along with derek for the most part these days, but he's still an ass more times than not.]

It's not too callous if I'm willing to agree with you. Besides, have you met some of these people? I'm not saying some of them might deserve it— [ but they might deserve it.

maybe it's odd to smile at that, but lydia can't help the smile that crosses her face when she nods. ] You mean more than normal? I promise. No hiding of any weird goings on with me or anything that might mean bad. Acceptable enough of an answer for you?

[ is she teasing, is she being serious? the world may never know. ]

Uh, yeah. I have. [slight wince, but no further explanation than that. lydia can have her secret and stiles can have his, telling scott about arima had been difficult enough.]

Yes. More than normal. We both know Derek isn't happy unless he's waving his cane at people and telling them to stay off his lawn at least once a month.

[stiles tilts his chin up, pushes his lips and his brow together and regards lydia in a mock, business like manner. it's pretty damn obvious he's not being serious, but then, stiles has never been one for subtlety.]

Your terms appear to be acceptable, Miss Martin, I do believe that we have an accord.

[ he can't see it, obviously, but she smiles at that. he's a good kid. ]

Yeah, please do. I'm often available, all things considered. [ trapped in outer space, etc. ] — and I've had a few topsy turvy adventures of my own, you know. [ if he wants to even the score, given the knowledge she gleaned from his memory. ]
